LEWIS GOLOVE

Lewis has been tutoring students of all ages since finishing his undergrad in 2015. He sees teaching and learning as two sides of the same coin. His whole life, any time he made an exciting discovery or learned a cool new concept, he felt like he couldn’t wait to share it with anyone who would listen. He brings that same love of discovery to teaching. There’s nothing he enjoys more than seeing the gleam in a student’s eyes when a powerful concept finally clicks.

As a teacher, Lewis prioritizes three things—engagement, fundamentality, and depth. The goal is to teach students powerful general concepts that they will deeply retain, and that they can apply to virtually any problem. What he is after is much more than memorization—it is true understanding. Especially when dealing with topics in STEM, curricula too often fail to properly motivate the topics being discussed. It’s hard to learn a subject when you aren’t sure what the textbook is trying to convey and why—but on the flip side, a properly motivated course can drive incredible returns.

Lewis’s teaching experiences have been wide-ranging, from working with test-prep companies to teaching undergraduate philosophy at NYU. He is currently an instructor and private tutor at LSATMax, and he also works separately with a number of students from ages 12-18 on topics in physics, chemistry, and math.

Lewis got his BA in Philosophy from Yale, graduating summa cum laude, and his JD from Yale Law School. His main academic interests are in philosophy and physics (which he admits might seep into his teaching from time to time). He’s also an avid wild mushroom hunter, so feel free to ask him about that too!

Lewis is also the co-founder and head of research at Murmur Secure, a non-profit dedicated to researching the cybersecurity needs of small businesses and other nonprofits, and bringing them real security solutions for free or at highly discounted rates. So if you want to talk about cybersecurity, or working in nonprofit tech, he’d love to chat!
